United States – “Salesian Missions” welcome its New Director: Fr Mike Conway

08 January 2024

(ANS – New Rochelle) – Cardinal Ángel Fernández Artime, Rector Major of the Salesians of Don Bosco, appointed Father Michael Conway as new director of Salesian Missions.

Fr. Mike immediately succeeds Father Timothy Ploch, who faithfully and effectively served as interim director for the past 12 months—a role he assumed following Fr. Gus Baek’s unexpected passing in December 2022.

Fr Conway was born on 11 August 1962 in Conway, USA, and made his novitiate in Newton, where he made his first profession on 25 August 1983. He then professed perpetual vows in Port Chester on 19 August 1989 and was ordained a priest in Nanuet, near New York, on 31 May 1992.

In his Salesian life, he has served in many different ways in many houses of the Province of St Philip the Apostle in the Eastern United States and Canada (SUE): among other positions, he was Principal in Marrero (2005-08), Director of the Salesian House in St Petersburg (2008-15), Director in Washington (2015-201).

For the SUE Province he was Provincial Councillor (2018-21) and Bursar (2021-23).

“I’m delighted with our Rector Major’s choice,” says Fr. Tim. “Fr. Mike is a seasoned and capable leader and colleague whose Salesian heart beats in unison with Don Bosco’s.”

“We’re delighted, too! And we’re grateful for Fr. Tim’s leadership as he expertly navigated us through uncharted waters with grace. Thank you, Fr. Tim—and welcome, Fr. Mike! The entire Salesian Missions family appreciates you both” affermano dagli uffici della Procura Missionaria salesiana.
