RMG – DBGYFF 2023: the desire to participate grows

21 July 2023

(ANS – Rome) – Less than three months before the second edition of the “Don Bosco Global Youth Film Festival” (DBGYFF), scheduled around the world  from 13-14 October 2023, there is enthusiasm for this initiative from Salesian works around the world. So many young people are eager to express themselves and so much is the desire to participate that the Festival’s coordination team has decided to extend the time for presentation of entries The new date is set for 15 August: there are, therefore, 25 days left to present the short films and thus get involved in this worldwide Salesian youth initiative!

The DBGYFF is the world-class Salesian youth film festival conceived and proposed by the Salesian Congregation's Social Communication Sector to encourage young people to express their talents and to make them ambassadors of a message of universal value: “Love builds peace and solidarity” - which is precisely the theme of this second edition of the festival.

Since this new artistic and cinematographic competition was officially launched on 31 January, the entire Salesian world has got moving. The Social Communication Delegates are working on all continents and the work is proceeding on several fronts: the DON BOSCO NEL MONDO Foundation, which also supports this edition of the DBGYFF, is accompanying the central organisational processes alongside the festival's coordination team; moreover, in several of the 7 Salesian Regions the regional juries are already being formed – juries, i.e., called upon to make an initial screening of the works submitted, and to identify the best artistic products in their geographical area.

But above all, there are many young people interested in this opportunity that makes them leading players in a quality creative process and at the same time standard bearers of positive and hopeful values. Precisely for this reason, and due to the requests received from several Provincial Social Communication Delegates, the  festival's coordination team has decided to postpone the closing date for the presentation of the 15-day short films and to take it to 15 August 2023.

The participation and interest registered by young people is also the fundamental reason why the Social Communication Sector is renewing the invitation to many Salesians and members of the Salesian Family to seize the opportunity of the festival, so that through the tools of art, creativity and healthy competition, they can establish deep and significant bonds with the boys and girls in their centres, and can accompany them in a Salesian way to express their talents, their commitment, and above all their desire to be true ambassadors of love in all corners of the world.

“This year we decided to motivate  our young people first of all, those from Salesian settings, because we know them and we know ‘the kind of stuff they are made of’ – Fr Harris Pakkam, Director of DBGYFF concludes. We know, that is, as Don Bosco taught us, that to get a young person involved there is nothing better than another young person, and we want to encourage the boys and girls of our centres to make their desire to contribute to the good of society known to the world. They are, in fact, the only ones who can realise Don Bosco's dream of becoming “good believers and upright citizens.”
