The theme of the assembly is “Faith without works is dead” (Jas 2:14 -17) - the community's journey in a spirit of practicality (concretezza) in service to young people and the Church.
Various meetings are planned for reflection and formation of Salesians, Daughters of Mary Help of Christians and lay people belonging to the CMB Community.
The objectives of the meeting are:
– A focus on the characteristics of the actual work of its members in real situations, endeavouring to make educational charity visible, and strengthen and clarify the internal dynamics of the Community, such as formation and communication.
– Evaluation of the pastoral journey over the last 7 years, inclusion in the Dioceses and Salesian Provinces, and the journey of communion with the Salesian Family.
– Election of the new General Council of Communities.
– Implementation of formation guidelines for the next 6 years.
At present, the CMB consists of around 600 members in 7 countries, involving various levels of membership, with 21 community units (groups and “tents”) and 19 specific activities, works and reception projects.
The Rector Major of the Salesians, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, as Father and Centre of Unity for the Salesian Family, has passed on a message of greeting and good wishes in view of the assembly: “Dear friends, on the occasion of the Third General Assembly of the Community of the Mission of Don Bosco, I extend my greetings to the entire Community and to those present. The theme of works as a sign of faith and communion in Don Bosco is essential for a true witness of apostolate and life according to the charismatic identity of the CMB.”
The Archbishop of Bologna and President of the Italian Episcopal Conference (CEI), Card. Matteo Maria Zuppi will speak during the Assembly and it also envisages other prominent presences. The Salesians of Don Bosco will include, among others, Fr Joan Lluís Plajà, Central Delegate of the Rector Major for the Salesian Family Secretariat; Fr Pierluigi Cameroni, Postulator of the Causes of the Saints for the Salesian Family; Frs Giuliano Giacomozzi, Erino Leoni and Gianluca Marchesi, the Provincial, Vice-Provincial and Economer respectively of the Province of Lombardy-Emiliana Italy (ILE).
