12 June 2023

(ANS – Budapest) – On 31 May & 1 June 2023, Don Bosco International had the pleasure to attend the Visible Value Symposium organised by the Youth Partnership Department of the Council of Europe, at the European Youth Center, in Budapest, Hungary.

The event took stock of the steps forward on youth work development and in the implementation of the European Youth Work Agenda (EYWA), and to streamline and promote a continuous constructive dialogue with the community of practice.

During the event, the participants from the European youth work community of practice had a space for networking, sharing tools for practical support, and for discussing latest research findings on youth work development.

Indeed, the event saw the participation of youth workers, researchers, and policy makers that had the opportunity to give their contribution to the discussion with their ideas but also with best practices.

During the Symposium there was an active dialogue about what actions and support is needed for stepping up the pace towards a strengthened, structured, and recognised youth work throughout Europe, and for reflecting on emerging trends and issues.

The discussion underlined that it is essential to continue to advocate for space for young people, where they can feel safe. The importance of a physical space where young people can express their talents was also highlighted.

In addition, we need to continue to advocate for professional growth for youth workers. Youth workers offer lot of skills. They empower the participation of young people in the democracy.

To achieve these goals, the national governments need to put youth as a priority on their agenda. It is crucial to include young people in the process of decision making. Bringing them in the position of taking concrete decisions.

The seminar also celebrated the 25 years of partnership between European Commission and Council of Europe in the field of Youth.
