(ANS – Turin) - The first session for the international summit for the Editors of the Salesian Bulletin commenced with the speech of Fr. Stefano Martoglio, the Vicar of the Rector Major, who spoke on the theme “The Charismatic dimension of the Salesian Bulletin”.

“The Salesian Bulletin is a century-old magazine that was born from the heart and mind of Don Bosco. All the editors of the Salesian Bulletin need to be involved in the Congregation's journey and mission. The Salesian Bulletin is an instrument to express the heart of the Congregation and the mind of the Rector Major, who is the Chief Editor of the same”, he affirmed.

He reiterated that the significance of catering to the young, especially those who suffer due to various oppressive conditions, is central to our mission. “When the mission is focused on the poor young people, we receive abundant blessings. It is the poor people who will bring us salvation. In this context of immigration and war, we need to always focus on the poor and marginalized young”, he said.

He emphasized how we need to involve the young and make them partners in our mission. He stated, “It is not just sufficient to give voice to the young; it is also important to give them a pen. They become part of our editorial team. This might sound quite utopian, but it is the ideal way to do the mission of Don Bosco through the Salesian Bulletin”.

Fr. Martoglio exhorted that the work of the Salesian bulletin is a shared mission. He said, “While we work for the salvation of the young through this media ministry, we need to also collaborate with the laity. From the time Don Bosco began his work at Pinardi Chapel, the laity were actively involved in his mission. It is, therefore, essential to work in harmony with the laity, who become part and parcel of our mission. This great work should always be done as a shared mission”.

He stressed, that the way we present the Salesian mission, people should fall in love with the pastoral heart of Don Bosco. “Our mission should lead everyone to Paradise, and Don Bosco proposed paradise in a very interesting way which again is our motto: "Give me souls and take away the rest”, he affirmed.

After his inaugural address there were a few questions posed by the participants to the Vicar. While clarifying the question on the Online Bulletin, he explained that it was a new step towards the spreading the Salesian Bulletin in a significant way on the digital world, and that soon he would be sending a letter to all the provincials giving them guidelines on the same.

To another participant who wanted to clarify whether the migrants and oppressed were included, he affirmed, that when he described the term ‘poor’, all were certainly included.

Fr. Martoglio concluded his inaugural address by highlighting the need to have ‘Passion and Innovation,’ which should become central for all our works.
