Sculptures and paintings, made with different materials and techniques, depict Jesus in the last hours of His life until the glorious moment of the Resurrection, according to the features and costumes typical of the non-European populations represented in the Museum's vast collection.
The exhibition, titled "He loved them to the end" (Jn. 13:1), is not only composed of objects. In fact, it is contextualized in light of the theme of the Rector Major's Strenna for 2023, "As the Yeast in Today's Human Family. The Lay Dimension of the Family of Don Bosco."
Following the suggestion of the Tenth Successor of Don Bosco, who in the Strenna lists the 25 figures of Salesian lay holiness belonging to the Salesian Family (including Saints, Blesseds, Venerables, and Servants of God), the curators chose to display these figures as a frame for the exhibition, because, as they reiterated, quoting the Rector Major, "these are men and women, young and old, who filled their lives with the leaven of love. Love that gives itself to the end, faithful to Jesus Christ and his Gospel."
Each of them, in different ways and situations, offered their lives for the cause of the Gospel. And their union to the Cross of Christ, in sharing the same physical or spiritual sufferings, contributed to the concretization of that Love for their brothers and sisters "to the end."
Although dedicated to the time of Lent and Easter, the exhibition will remain on display until October 2023 and can be visited during MEM's opening hours: Tuesday through Saturday: 10 a.m. - 12 noon / 2:30 p.m. - 6 p.m.; Sunday and holidays: 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. / 2 p.m. - 6 p.m.
