14 March 2023

(ANS - Lisbon) - Six thousand youth from the Salesian Youth Movement in Portugal and many other countries have already registered to participate in World Youth Day (WYD), which will be held in Lisbon in August 2023.

Hailing from countries as diverse as Germany, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Angola, China, Korea, Pakistan, the Dominican Republic, Papua New Guinea, Pakistan, and Poland - among many on the list - these 6,000 young people who have already registered through WYD DON BOSCO 23 do not want to miss this great meeting of young people from around the world with the Pope.

Through WYD DON BOSCO 23, the Salesian Youth Movement (SYM) organization responsible for the convocation and participation of young people from various environments around the world in WYD Lisbon 2023, SYM boys and girls from all latitudes and geographical realities shall be able to experience this youth festival according to the charism of Don Bosco. WYD DON BOSCO 23, in fact, also wants to integrate WYD 2023, accompanying all its dynamics and moments foreseen in the official program of the event, as well as enhancing, on a particular day - that of "SYM Day" - all its typically Salesian associative and youth dimension.

The presence of young people animated by the Salesian charism at the largest event of the young and of the world Church shows that the young followers of Don Bosco today still make their voices heard, actively participate in society, and get involved at the ecclesial level.

A total of about 8,000 young people from the Salesian Youth Movement are expected to attend this major celebration in Lisbon. When the event is just under 5 months away, the 6,000 already registered certainly represent a good starting point.

The Salesian Youth Movement is a movement of communion of various youth groups and associations integrated into the youth ministry of the Salesians and the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians. United by the educational and evangelizing proposal inspired by the spirit and style of St. John Bosco and St. Mary Domenica Mazzarello, the youth of the SYM are subjects and protagonists of their human and Christian growth.

WYD DON BOSCO 23 is the name of the Salesian Youth Movement organization responsible for the convocation and participation of young people from different Salesian environments around the world in WYD Lisbon 2023, to make it live according to the charism of Don Bosco. WYD DON BOSCO 23 wants to motivate young people to walk this path as a pilgrimage that will strengthen their faith and challenge other young people who are further from the faith to know and recognize the living Christ.

The name of the organization, WYD DON BOSCO 23, is the result of combining the acronym in English referring to World Youth Day (WYD), and a play on the English word "with,"; the reference to Don Bosco, founder of the Salesian Family; and the date of the event.
