RMG - New Provincial Superior of Southern Italy Province appointed

(ANS - Rome) - The Rector Major of the Salesians of Don Bosco, Fr. Ángel Fernández Artime, in the framework of the General Council meeting, and with the consent of the other members of the Council, has appointed Fr. Gianpaolo Roma as the new Superior of the "Don Michele Rua" Province of Southern Italy (IME), for the 2023-2029 term.

 

Gianpaolo Roma was born in Salerno on November 25, 1979. He entered the Pinerolo novitiate in 2000, where he took his first vows on September 8, 2000. He made his perpetual vows in Andria on Sept. 9, 2007, while he received priestly ordination on May 16, 2009, in his hometown.

In the community of Santeramo in Colle he served as Councilor (2010-2011), Oratory Rector (2010-2014) and then Vicar (2011-2014); then he was designated as Economer in Torre Annunziata (2014-2016) and Andria (2016-2017); later he served as Director and Parish Priest in Brindisi (2017-2019); for the last three years he has been a Councilor at the Provincial Center in Naples.

As for assignments in the Province, he was Delegate for Missions (2013-2017), Vocations (2018-2019), and Youth Ministry (2019-ongoing).

"Fr. Gianpaolo knows our Province and what we are experiencing, being a member of the current Provincial Council. I can testify to his attentiveness, industriousness, and generosity in living out his service as Delegate of Youth Ministry and his commitment to the processes of transformation that as a Province we have begun to carry out in recent years," said the current IME Provincial, Fr. Angelo Santorsola. 

Fr. Roma will begin his service as Provincial in the summer of 2023.
