A first area of work, for Fr. Á.F. Artime and the other General Council members, concerns the appointment of the Superiors of as many as 14 circumscriptions: Peru, Ecuador, Central America, India-Chennai, Zambia-Malawi-Zimbabwe-Namibia, Thailand, Portugal, Belgium North and Holland, Italy Lombardo-Emiliana, Italy South, Germany, Ireland, Brazil-Porto Alegre, and Southern Africa.
Moreover, the following reports on Extraordinary Visits shall be listened to, reports relating to: Colombia-Bogota (COB), made by Fr. Hugo Orozco, Councilor for the Inter-American Region; Ukraine (UKR) and Hungary (UNG) by Fr. Roman Jachimowicz, Councilor for the Central and Northern Europe Region; Hungary (UNG) by Fr. Jachimowicz; India-Mumbai (ING) by Fr. Biju Michael, Councilor for the South Asia Region; Brazil-Porto Alegre (BPA) and Uruguay (URU) by Fr. Gabriel Romero, Councilor for the South Cone America Region; Australia and the Pacific (AUL) by Fr. Joseph Nguyen Thinh Phuoc, Councilor for the East Asia-Oceania Region; Southern Africa (AFM) by Fr. Alphonse Owoudou, Councilor for the Africa-Madagascar Region; and France and Southern Belgium (FRB) by Fr. Fabio Attard, Responsible for Salesian and Lay Formation in Europe.
Also on the agenda, the General Council sessions have the accompaniment of the processes carried out by each Sector and the planning of appointments and recurrences of global scope for the Congregation, the Salesian Family, or the whole Church.
The discussions will concern: updates on the preparation of the new text of the Ratio Fundamentalis; the preparation of Salesians in matters of Salesianity; Salesian works with lay management; the paths taken by the Youth Ministry Sector; the distribution of funds for the missions; the approval of the budget; and the analysis of some statistics on the theme of Salesian perseverance.
Further topics of study will be offered by the documents of the Provincial Chapters to be approved; the planning of the Team Visits to the various Salesian Regions, which will take up a good part of 2023; and committee work on some Salesian missionary presences in multi-religious contexts, in Asia, as well as in Europe.
In addition to the celebration of the main anniversaries of the Christmas season, marking moments of celebration for the Rector Major and his Council will also be the joint meeting with the General Council of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians, scheduled for Thursday, December 22; and the XLI edition of the Salesian Family Spirituality Days, from January 12 to 15, 2023.
