The Salesian parish is attended by about 5,000 faithful. It offers services such as Caritas, catechism classes and various groups and forms of associations. The oratory-youth centre has a well-equipped library and a computer room and it caters for different groups and youth movements. About 250 children and young people come to the centre every day, either to study or to have fun in a healthy educational way during their free time. The school is also open every day. It has 600 students, divided into two shifts, morning and afternoon.
But there is one thing needed in this great centre in Brazzaville - a hydraulic system and a water tower to collect and distribute water from the existing well for the more than 900 people who pass through the centre daily. It is easy to imagine the importance for public health of this project for all who frequent the centre, especially since interruptions to the water services are frequent in Makelekele and the surrounding areas.
Thanks to the commitment of the Salesian Mission Office in Madrid and the support of many benefactors we have already found the funds necessary for the realization of this important work. It will allow the distribution of water even when there is no electricity. This concerns directly the care of children and young people and their dignity, and will offer better hygiene and disease prevention.
