10 November 2022

(ANS - Sesto San Giovanni) - A collaboration agreement between the Centro Nazionale Opere Salesiane - Formazione Aggiornamento Professionale (CNOS-FAP) of the Salesians of Lombardy and the Confederation of Italian Manufacturing Industry and Private Enterprise (Confimi) of the Monza and Brianza area was presented last Monday, Nov. 7, at the Opere Sociali "Don Bosco" in Sesto San Giovanni. The agreement provides for concrete and targeted actions by the two entities to foster the training of young people and their job placement.

The presentation of the agreement, which was also attended by a number of local authorities, including mayors and labor and youth policy aldermen from municipalities in the area, took place according to schedule: at the opening, institutional greetings were offered by Fr. Elio Cesari, director of Opere Sociali Don Bosco; Franco Goretti and Edoardo Ranzini, president and director, respectively, of Confimi Monza e Brianza; and Francesco Cristinelli, director of Cnos-Fap Sesto.

Then, the head of the association's School Group, Laura Parigi, presented the contents of the agreement. With this signing, CNOS-FAP Salesiani Lombardia commits itself to promote the partnership agreement during the orientation days addressed to lower-order schools in the area, enhancing its objectives in terms of the link between training and the world of work. For its part, Confimi Industria Monza e Brianza undertakes to disseminate, through the channels available, the terms of the agreement and, above all, to provide advice to companies on the subject of job orientation and first- and third-level apprenticeship, through the expertise of its internal staff.

"This is an important tool for our students, especially those in Vocational Training; but it is also a beautiful opportunity for development and collaboration between two realities, in step with the times!" commented Fr. Cesari on the occasion.

Then Francesco Sala and Lucia Prestini, from Cnos-Fap Lombardy, explained the services offered by the Employment Services and Training in Companies sector, in particular the opportunities of Fondimpresa and Regional Funds.

The event concluded with a visit by all present to the Salesian institute's technical and vocational workshops.

The agreement signed represents an example of beneficial collaboration for both institutions: with this agreement, in fact, the Sons of Don Bosco continue their path in the promotion of curricular internship and apprenticeship paths through collaborations of excellence with the top Lombard bodies of job placement; while the School Group of Confimi Monza and Brianza carries on its policy of bringing businesses and the world of education closer together and fostering dialogue between the two.

The Don Bosco Social Works have been an important presence in Sesto San Giovanni for 74 years. The Salesians began their activities there in 1948 at the invitation of Cardinal Ildefonso Schuster, Archbishop of Milan. In 1955, the Salesians took over from the four major industrial companies in Sesto at the time - Acciaierie e Ferriere Lombarde Falck, Finanziaria Breda, Ercole Marelli e C., Fabbrica Italiana Magneti Marelli - in the management of the "Scuole Industriali Sestesi" that had sprung up for the benefit of student-workers, reorganized and relaunched them by giving them a new home. In 74 years, the presence of the Don Bosco Social Works in Sesto has also become important numerically: it has 2,740 students (540 in middle school, 500 in vocational training, 1,400 in secondary school, 300 from the Technical Institute, also a secondary school), 200 collaborators, 2 parishes, 1 oratory, 800 children in catechism groups, 500 members of parish sports associations, 100 Caritas volunteers.
