The Rector Major emphasizes that this is a true cultural conversion and not a passing fad. "Our commitment to an integral human ecology comes from a conviction of faith for which everything is interconnected, and that genuine care for our own lives and our relationships with nature is inseparable from fraternity, justice, and faithfulness to others," the text reads.
The Salesians of Elche have also recently adhered to the strategy of energy independence and the use of alternative energies, which, in the current circumstances, are a primary necessity, both for the reduction of environmental impact and for an energy-saving discourse.
This initiative has a dual purpose. On the one hand, it represents a significant saving on the energy bill, which, given the geostrategic world situation, is of vital importance. On the other, it is in line with the sustainable development goals and priorities of the Salesian Congregation, which aims to promote alternative energies and implement them in its centers around the world during this decade.
Thus, the Salesian presence in Elche has equipped itself with 80 solar panels, a photovoltaic inverter that monitors panel production and consumption, and an energy meter. All of this was made possible in part by a grant from the Valencian Institute for Business Competitiveness (IVACE in Spanish).
The Salesian school in Elche has also been included in the "Don Bosco Green Alliance" network, which brings together Salesian institutions committed to sustainable development and combating climate change.
