Italy – Don Bosco Network holds its General Assembly in heart of Salesian congregation, Valdocco

06 June 2022

(ANS – Turin) – On the 1st and 2nd of June, the General Assembly of Don Bosco Network gathered in Valdocco for its bi-annual meeting. The representatives of the different Salesian NGOs and Mission Offices active in development cooperation flew in from Europe, New York, and India. “For the first time after the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, we were able to gather all representatives. We were also very pleased to welcome Fr. Alfred Maravilla and Br. Jean-Paul Muller as guests at our meetings, even though their schedules were already very busy with the summer session of the General Council. It shows as well the importance of DBN for the congregation,” states Fonny Grootjans, Network Coordinator.

“This General Assembly was also the start of a new phase for the network with the election of a new board. We are very grateful for the active commitment of Angel Gudina (Misiones Salesianas, Esp) and Fr. Noel Maddhichety SDB (BoscoNet, India) and we are happily welcoming Silvia Cromm (Don Bosco Mondo, Ger), Chiara Lombardi (VIS, Ita) and Fr. Santhanaraj Ubagram SDB (Bosconet, India). May God and Don Bosco guide them in their new mission within Don Bosco Network,” he added.

Another important milestone during the meeting was the launch of a new strategic plan for 2022-2026.

The plan aims, among other things, to: develop stronger cooperation and coordination between DBN-members, PDOs, MOs, NGOs, Youth Ministry, Economers and Missionary Sector; find efficient strategies for sharing of knowledge, expertise, and experiences; create capacity-building opportunities for members but also for all Salesian partners worldwide. With this new plan, DBN can confidently continue its mission in the field of Salesian development cooperation, develop education, missionary animation, emergency response, etc.

“There was no better place than to have this meeting in the mother-heart of the congregation. Valdocco, the visit to the museum, and all the Salesian-inspired people present contributed to a very constructive, open, and targeted meeting. We are already looking forward to the next one, but in the meantime, we continue to serve the young people all over the world," Mr. Grootjans concluded.
