"Shouldn't they be able to have at least a small moment of celebration for Easter? Certainly in every Christian family, and especially among children, there will be sweet memories of the great expressions of joy on this feast, the most important and solemn in our Christian calendar. Shouldn't they be able to celebrate at least in a small way?" wondered Fr George Menamparampil, Head of Salesian Emergency Response Coordination, a few days before the feast.
Thanks to the direct commitment of the German Salesian Mission Office, "Don Bosco Mission Bonn", and having received positive feedback from various Greek Orthodox parishes, more than 1,100 gift packages were sent from Warsaw and distributed to Ukrainian families under the care of the Salesians in Lviv, each containing a box of sweets with which as many families were able, despite everything, to share a moment of celebration in the sign of the Risen Christ.
In the same spirit, the Provincial Council of the Salesians of Warsaw shared a festive lunch with a number of refugees who have been staying in their community for weeks.
Looking, then, at the many activities still underway throughout the international Salesian Family in support of Ukrainian refugees, it is worth mentioning the initiative of the Institute of Social Pedagogy and Theology of Jakob, in the Czech Republic, an institution promoted by the local Salesian Province: as part of its commitment to foster the insertion of refugees into the Czech social and productive fabric, it offers Ukrainian students the possibility of attending Czech language courses and courses for social workers and Pedagogy.
