Two years later, "Getsemaní, el musical" was able to debut in a different and more ambitious format, in the theater of the Salesian house "Holy Trinity" in Seville, on the Feast of St. Joseph, Saturday, March 19. Then, it was also staged in the Salesian home "San Ignacio" of Cadiz, on Saturday, April 2, again - as in Seville - with two performances per date.
All proceeds from the sale of tickets and products related to the show will be donated to the "Buzzetti" project of the "Fundación Don Bosco Salesianos Social", aimed at the care and promotion of young people who have been excluded, for age reasons, from the projects of assistance to minors.
The cast of the musical is composed of over 120 people who, all on a voluntary basis, collaborate in this project’s production: in musical direction, Javier Romero; artistic direction, Rafael Sánchez Cazorla, SDB, and Ana Abad; set design, Rubén Fernández; graphic design, Javi Comino; and many other lesser-known people who have given their time, gifts, and dedication, people from many Salesian homes throughout the country, such as the Salesian centers in Cadiz, Rota, Jerez, San José del Valle, Algeciras, Seville, Sanlúcar la Mayor, Utrera, Palma del Río, Mérida, Alicante, Madrid.
In terms of structure, the musical consists of 18 scenes, linked by the figure of a Roman centurion named Cornelius who acts as a counterpoint to the drama depicted; in the plot’s development, we hear well-known songs from musicals such as "Godspell" and "Jesus Christ Superstar" and the group Brotes de Olivo, as well as other lesser-known motifs that make up a highly realistic musical and at the same time able to move the audience emotionally.
And the reception of the public in Seville and Cadiz was, indeed, warm and enthusiastic.
After its last performance in Cadiz, a new horizon of other possible performances opened up for the musical "Gethsemane". It has already been requested by several Salesian houses in the provinces of Cadiz, Seville, Córdoba, and Madrid, and there are also several parishes and diocesan entities interested in hosting a show.
In all cases, the organizers assure that this initiative will maintain its own character, spreading the message of Jesus of Nazareth in the style of Don Bosco, and preserving the charitable and supportive purpose of helping those most in need.
