The Past Pupils of Don Bosco in Spain had been summoned to celebrate the Elective Assembly to elect the new Confederal President on 18 December last. After the Eucharist, the Assembly began. Among the two candidates presented, Diego Aragón Yuste, currently Regional President of the Southern Zone of Spain, was elected by an absolute majority for the next 4 years.
On that occasion, the Assembly did not fail to thank the outgoing President, Fernando Núñez Arce, on behalf of his Confederal Executive, for the work done over the past eight years.
The new confederal executive began its work on 21 and 22 January in a meeting that marked the handover, and which was characterized by an unexpected gift: a meeting with Fr Ángel Fernández Ártime, the Rector Major of the Salesians and Father and Center of Unity of the Salesian Family, who congratulated the new team and encouraged it to look to the future and to contribute to the work of the whole Salesian Family in Spain. In his message of encouragement, Fr Á.F. Ártime invited all present not to be carried away by nostalgia, but to do their part for the children, teenagers and young people, especially the most vulnerable.
In addition, meetings were held with the Technical Secretariat, which carries out the daily work of the Spanish Confederation of Past Pupils, to find out the state of the Past Pupils movement in detail, and with the heads of the "Juan Siglo XXI" Foundation, who in recent years have done a great job to modernize and adapt this entity, so that they are increasingly more and better a useful tool to support educational and employment projects for young people in Spain.
Diego Aragón Yuste is a Past Pupil of the Houses of Antequera and Malaga, Salesian Cooperator of the Center of Malaga, an active member of the Night Adoration, founder of the Salesian Brotherhood of Malaga born on the initiative of the Past Pupils of Don Bosco. He was President of the Malaga Association for two terms, from 2004 to 2012, a period during which the Association celebrated the centenary of its foundation, obtaining the installation of the monument to Don Bosco and the celebration of five events related to the movement at the regional, national and international levels. From 2006, with the reunification of the regional associations of Cordoba and Seville, he was Regional Secretary until 2015, when he was elected Regional President.
