India – “Climate Action: A Green Campus Approach”

(ANS – Guwahati) – Transitioning towards a Green Campus can come with many challenges especially during this pandemic. More than presenting theories, it’s important present existing models. In the webinar “Climate Action: A Green Campus Approach” Don Bosco University in Assam, India and Don Bosco Tech Africa shared their journey.

The webinar, organized by both Institutions, together with Don Bosco Green Alliance (DBGA), was held on 28th January at 12 pm UTC on Zoom. 178 participants registered for this webinar which is now available on the DBGA YouTube channel.

Ms. Mebari Vanessa R Dorphang, a faculty member from the Department of Zoology at Don Bosco University of Assam, explained how they made their 274 acres of land a Green Campus, using the land to sustain livelihoods and create an eco-friendly community. The presentation briefly explained their green initiatives in 5 key areas: 1) land utilization, 2) energy conservation, 3) waste management, 4) water management and 5) air quality improvement. She then gave a brief overview of the Eco-friendly campus policy.

In the second presentation, Mr. Jack Omondi, Project Officer from Don Bosco Tech Africa, introduced the “Green TVET” project that focuses on Waste Management, Water and Wastewater Management, Solar Energy and Biogas energy. He then explained how the Green TVET project was implemented through centres of excellence, mobile awareness teams and green clubs.

The webinar was part of the “Making Our Campus Green” campaign.
