From March to June, a group of about twenty young people began to give new life to the environments of the "Centro Salesiano do Menor", which for years had trained hundreds of girls and boys with various vocational courses, but which, unfortunately, had closed its doors at the end of 2019. Cleaning up the rooms, painting the volleyball and soccer fields, preparing the arcades, the games, the meeting rooms and the kitchen, was a job that now occupied the Salesians and young people every Saturday for three months.
The oratory, which began in small steps on the first two Saturday afternoons, then really took off, with the presence on Saturday afternoon and Wednesday evening of more than 300 children from the city’s poorest "bairros". Thanks to many Italian and local benefactors, the Salesians have always been able to guarantee an abundant snack with hot dogs and natural fruit juice. A great success, too, on 12 October, the National Day of the Child: the presence of over 500 people, including children and parents or guardians, made everyone understand how important the presence of the “Saint Frances de Sales” oratory is for children, young people and families in the most needy areas of the city.
“Divine Providence has never failed and will never fail. As Sons of Don Bosco, we are sure that what comes from God will be protected and blessed by God Our Father himself,” affirm with confidence Fr Roberto Cappelletti and Fr Antonio Carlos da Cunha Alves.
