Among the reasons that gave rise to this award is the fact that the Salesian schools in the Province and the "UniSales" University Center offer low-income students more than 1,900 scholarships: partial, full and related to higher education (PROUNI).
Andressa de Oliveira, learning analyst, recalls that already in 2017 and 2018 the BBH Province received recognition as one of the Best NGOs for Donations. Now, being awarded this award again constitutes a reason for great joy for the provincial community as it indicates that it is indeed carrying out its mission worthily with the most vulnerable children, adolescents, and young people. "This result belongs to all the people who believe and support the work started by Don Bosco," said the analyst.
This year, despite the continuing difficulties imposed by the pandemic, the Prize had a record number of entries: 1,033 organizations. "For us, 2021 is a very special year, not only because we have had the highest number of registered NGOs, but also for a sequence of years with significant improvements in the level of membership: these are increasingly professional organizations," explained Fernando Nogueira, researcher of the “Getúlio Vargas” Foundation (FGV), that has coordinated the evaluation process of the organizations competing for the award since the first edition.
The official award ceremony will take place on Thursday 9 December at 18:00 local time (UTC-3), and will be broadcast on the Canal Futura YouTube channel. This year’s novelty is the recognition of the best in each state of Brazil, in addition to the categories already known: the 100 best NGOs ever, the best of each cause, the ten best small ones.
The "Melhores ONG" award is organized by the organizations "O Mundo que Queremos", the "Doar" Institute and "Ambev VOA", with the support of researchers from the "Getúlio Vargas" Foundation, the "Humanize" Institute, the Toyota Foundation of Brazil and Canal Futura. The award, since 2017, recognizes the fundamental work provided by non-governmental institutions in Brazil and also acts as a beacon to guide donations, offering great visibility to the sector.
