Already on October 16, 2020, the English and French platform was launched as part of the international webinar, "Caring for unaccompanied minors in Europe"; now, thanks to the work of “Salesiani per il Sociale APS”, the platform is also made available in Italian, while other partners have created the Greek and German versions.
The platform is the result of the work carried out within the project "Building knowledge from local practices: a solution for better care and support of unaccompanied minors in Europe", which involved seven European partners: “Apprentis d'Auteuil” in France; “Salesiani per il Sociale APS” in Italy; “Christliches Jugenddorfwerk Deutschlands” in Germany; “The Smile of a Child” in Greece; and partners in the research field, the University of Ghent in Belgium; the University of Bedfordshire, England; and the Observatory on Child Migration of the University of Poitiers, France.
This tool will offer operators the opportunity for ongoing training and interaction with a digital community of experts in the field and with other partners operating in different countries.
During the online course, these three phases of the accompaniment process in the reception facilities will be the focus: the reception upon arrival; care of the minors during their stay; providing them with the right support when they depart.
The course can be attended with flexibility, choosing the the full course or the module according to individual needs. The examples presented (in the form of interactive videos, audio, testimonials) are taken from real experiences lived in the field by professionals who work with young people. During the training course, there is also the chance to self-evaluate the activities and knowledge learned. On completion of the course, participants receive a certificate.
An operator of "Salesiani per il Sociale APS", Elma Placido, who participated in creating the pedagogical tool, underlined how the preparation of this platform has provided a wonderful opportunity of discussion and debate between various educators of different countries but working in the same sector.
The tool is also useful for the formation of those dealing with migrants for the first time or for those in need of updated knowledge in the field.
