The pilgrimage began on April 14 in the "St Peter" cathedral of Gizo with the blessing of the candle and the jubilee cross, and their official delivery to the pastoral team in charge, by Msgr. Capelli.
Its first destination was the parish of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in the community of algae growers at Wagina. The following destinations were the parish of “Christ the King” in Voruvoru, the parish of “St Dominic” in Sirovanga, and the parish of “St John Bosco” in Taro; before continuing with the stops at the "St Joseph" church in Moli, the "Holy Rosary" in Nila, near Gizo, and at the parish of "St Eusebius" in Noro.
In each of these locations, a three-day animation activity has been planned, during which the history of the Church and the message of light that Jesus brings to these parishes is highlighted.
Through their homilies, the priests involved in the various realities invited the faithful to allow themselves to be renewed by Jesus Christ, so that His light may continue to illuminate their hearts and lives from Baptism (represented by the candle) to death (represented by the cross).
The visit of the candle and the cross also become an opportunity to revitalize vocational activities for couples, youth ministry and missionary activities among young people.
"Baptized, consecrated and sent for missions" is the theme that will mark the Diamond Jubilee of the diocese of Gizo, a theme that wants to remind each lay faithful to their responsibility in building the Kingdom of God for a new society, new community, new family.
The conclusion of the pilgrimage of the candle and the cross is scheduled for the third week of May 2021.
