“The announcement, given in full pandemic, on April 18, that Pope Francis authorized the opening of the Cause, cheered many bishops, priests, men and women religious, and lay people who awaited this good news with patient and trusting hope, together with us, his spiritual daughters,” commented Mother Graziella Benghini, SOSC Superior General.
“Allow me a comparison,” continues Mother Benghini, “like the shepherds, in the darkness of night, they were enlightened by the good news and the event that had been awaited for centuries, so too when it seemed that nothing came to light, while the world was scared by Covid-19, suddenly the light of a new sun came to illuminate the life of the Salesian Family, of us Oblates, and of the whole Church ... And like in the dark night of Bethlehem, a light pierced the darkness because the Son of God became man and He came to bring the true light, so too we hope that the opening of the diocesan inquiry for the beatification and canonization of Msgr. Cognata be a reason for everyone's commitment to witness truth and justice, of which the Servant of God was an exemplary model.”
Although the restrictions due to the pandemic prevent the event from being celebrated with in person, it shall be possible to watch the event online thanks to the live broadcast of the ceremony, open to all, at the Facebook Page and YouTube Channel on 12 December at 11:00 (UTC +1).
