The contemporary circus is a space for “personal physical and mental growth”, which, through art, stimulates the senses and can give rise in the spectator to suggestions and sensations. The circus is constructed with the others, in that game in which everyone is transformed into something that is shared.
Just as Don Bosco was encouraged to visit the prisons and the peripheries to stay in the midst of those in need, the circus wants to reach out where the need is most felt: in the streets, districts, parks, square, making people aware that, through art, people can feel and transmit “a Jesus” who is close to and is friends with all.
The social circus is constructed and bets on “being an engine of change, to invite people to be in harmony with their own environment and to transform social space as a whole, into a more just, diversified and tolerant society”.
Keeping the balance, the social circus unites diverse disciplines, as if in a walk of a tight rope: circus arts and social sciences, organized in an attractive and innovating methodology that allows investing on youth at risk.
The social circus, imbued with the educative style of don Bosco, thus becomes the Salesian social circus and makes it possible to experience the Salesian charism through art. This means offering children, teenagers and young people, a safe family environment, full of respect and trust. This means constructing the social circus as a playground, home, school and parish. This means risking and betting, with great faith, that art transforms us and lends wings to our dreams.
