Vatican - What can we do to care for Creation? Week dedicated to encyclical "Laudato Si"

15 May 2020

(ANS - Vatican City) In recent days, Pope Francis urged to participate in the Laudato Sì Week, which will be held from tomorrow, May 16, until Sunday May 24; its theme: "Everything is connected."

During this time, Catholic communities around the world will come together to celebrate the fifth anniversary of Pope Francis' Encyclical of 24 May 2015. It will be a week during which we will all be called to contribute to the good of our Planet.

We are experiencing events that will remain etched in history and the Encyclical Laudato Sì teaches us how to build a better world together.

The appeal was especially felt by the entire Salesian world, in particular by the Don Bosco Green Alliance, the worldwide alliance of Salesian organizations committed to the protection of Creation. The Green Alliance, with its 270 members present in 56 different countries, has joined the call of the Holy Father and invites everyone to respond to the initiative.

Also, the Federation of Asian Bishops' Conferences (FABC) has prepared a simple animation booklet for the occasion. For each day of the week, it suggests a brief reflection on various topics and invites a simple action to increase environmental awareness. Finally, a World Day of Prayer is scheduled for May 24.

All the initiatives linked to the week of "Laudato Si" fall within the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of "Earth Day", established in 1970 and celebrated the United Nations on 22 April.

All those who are in contact with the Don Bosco Green Alliance or with other movements on the theme of Climate Change already know the different calls to action, the animated videos designed to raise awareness and promote actions for our common home, for people and their planet.

For those who want to know more, however, you can listen to the video message of Pope Francis or visit the website laudatosiweek.org.
