RMG – A message of faith and hope from the Rector Major

01 April 2020

(ANS - Rome) - The moment we are living must strengthen us in faith and intensify our prayers. It is the invitation that the Rector Major, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, addresses to all Salesians, to the Salesian Family and to all the catechists, animators, young people and families.

In his message, the Rector Major recalled the prayer of Pope Francis on 27 March: a prayer which Salesian communities from all over the world joined in force. "The Pope left us this message, the only one possible: an outlook of faith and hope," highlighted Fr Á.F. Artime, recalling the words of the Gospel quoted by the Holy Father: "Do not be afraid."

In addition, the Successor of Don Bosco expressed thanks to the entire Salesian Family for how it is responding to the emergency caused by Covid-19. On the one hand, he praised the many initiatives designed to continue carrying out formative and celebratory activities; on the other, he recalled the importance of continuing to follow the regulations dictated by the authorities and governments. Finally, he addressed a special thought to the poor and to all those who "if they cannot work, they cannot eat." It is everyone's duty, as upright citizens, to think of how to help the most needy in this difficult moment.
