Greece - Visit of the Holy Father Francis to Lesvos
Lesvos, Greece - April 16, 2016 – On Saturday 16 April Pope Francis paid a visit to Lesvos in Greece, where he was welcomed by the Prime Minister, by His Holiness Bartholomew, Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople, and by His Beatitude Ieronymos, Archbishop of Athens and all Greece. Subsequently, the Holy Father went to the Moria refugee camp to visit the refugees. Archbishop Ieronymos, Patriarch Bartholomew and Pope Francis spoke from the podium in the refugee registration courtyard. They then signed a joint statement calling on the international community to respond with courage to this enormous humanitarian crisis and the causes underlying it, through diplomatic, political and charitable initiatives, and through joint efforts in the Middle East and Europe.
