Papua New Guinea – Laudato Si’ Camp 2025: Inspiring Hope through Environmental Care

08 April 2025

Boroko, Port Moresby – April 2025 – The Mary Help of Christians Vocational Education Training FODE Centre (MHCVETFC) hosted its 4th Laudato Si’ Camp from April 4–6, 2025, at the Don Bosco Technical Institute Gymnasium in Boroko. The camp aimed to promote care for Mother Earth, all living creatures, humanity, and a culture of life under the theme “Reuse, Recycle, Hope for the Future.”

A total of 210 people participated, representing four parishes and four schools, including MHCVETFC students from six Salesian youth groups. Activities included an icebreaker session (“Getting to Know You”), a presentation on the 5Rs of environmental sustainability by the Media Club, a special Laudato Si’ Rosary, and a talk on climate change by Mr. Vanua Geno.

Outreach efforts gave participants the chance to connect with residents of the Cheshire Disability Services and selected students from Bavaroko Primary School. Participants also engaged in creative presentations, social evening events, praise and worship moments, and renewed their commitment to environmental care. The camp ended with a joyful Eucharistic celebration, preceded by the Sacrament of Reconciliation for Catholic participants. Everyone left inspired to build a better future—by caring for the planet and the people around them.
