Brazil - CESAM Goiânia's Socio-Family Support Workshop Discusses the Impact of Excessive Digital Device Use on New Generations
Goiânia, Brazil – March 2025 – The Salesian Apprenticeship Center (CESAM) in Goiânia held its first Socio-Family Support Workshop of 2025, an event held periodically for the guardians of the young people welcomed by the institution.
According to social worker Ms. Rosana Santana, the event provides families with an opportunity to learn more about the socio-learning program, share experiences, and receive specialized social support. "This contributes significantly to students by offering a safe and welcoming space for comprehensive development. Here, we address various topics such as adolescence, family education, health and well-being, income generation, rights, and citizenship."
The theme of this edition was "Mental Health: Technology Addictions," focusing on the impact of excessive smartphone and tablet use on young people's behavior. The discussion was led by psychology expert Dr. Maíra Lopes Almeida, who emphasized the importance of families setting an example for young people in using technology responsibly, encouraging reduced screen time in daily routines.
With 220 participants, organizers highlighted the workshop's significance in strengthening three institutional pillars: cooperation for development, social management and networking, and family empowerment. Moreover, by engaging with families on these topics, young people reinforce bonds, develop talents and skills, receive emotional support, and access critical information, preventing risky situations and ensuring youth leadership and protagonism.
