Venezuela – Salesian Congress: A Call to Be an "Open Door" to Grace

27 March 2025

Duaca, Venezuela – March 2025 – The Domenico Savio Youth Center experienced a vibrant spiritual moment on March 21, as over 120 members of the Salesian Family—including Daughters of the Divine Savior, Daughters of Mary Help of Christians, and Salesians of Don Bosco—gathered for a meeting focused on Salesian Presence as a Sacrament highlighted by the Letter from Rome written by Don Bosco in 1884.

Fr. Rafael Borges emphasized that the Salesian mission is not just about action but also about being a presence that embodies God's tenderness among the youth. "Being a Salesian means bearing witness to Grace in the courtyard, in daily conversations, and in a welcoming gaze," he said. Mariela, a Salesian Cooperator, encouraged participants to let the Letter from Rome serve as their guiding compass, reminding them that every act of love echoes Don Bosco’s dream.

Fr. Jorge Bastidas, Provincial Delegate for Salesian Youth Ministry, challenged attendees with an urgent call: "Be a home where young people discover their identity as children of God." In today’s fragmented world, the Salesian approach—rooted in the Preventive System—remains a space of encounter with Christ, where education and affection shape "good Christians and upright citizens."

The day, filled with prayer and group reflection, became an expression of synodality, uniting sisters, priests, and laypeople in renewing their commitment to bringing hope to those in need—just as Don Bosco did in Valdocco.
