Vatican – Lenten Spiritual Retreat: Baptism, Not a Cultural Rite but a Life Reborn in God
Vatican City, Vatican – March 2025 – On Wednesday, March 12, in the Paul VI Hall at the Vatican, the sixth meditation of the Lenten Spiritual Retreat for the Roman Curia took place, followed in communion by Pope Francis from the Gemelli Polyclinic. The Pontifical Preacher, Fr. Roberto Pasolini, reflected on the sacrament that initiates the Christian life—Baptism—emphasizing that it does not bring about an immediate and visible change but marks the beginning of a transformative journey. It requires trusting in God and allowing oneself to be guided towards unexplored horizons. At a time when Baptism is often regarded as merely a cultural tradition rather than a conscious act of faith, the preacher reminded that Christ calls for a radical choice: “placing our relationship with Him above all other ties, recognizing that true life is found only in God.” Among those attending the Retreat was Salesian Cardinal Ángel Fernández Artime, Pro-Prefect of the Dicastery for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life.
