Malta – A new chapter for the Polish community in Malta
Floriana, Malta – December 2024 – The vibrant Polish community in Malta, which has more than 3,000 residents, excluding the many tourists and visitors from Poland, enjoys strong ties to their homeland, with flights connecting Malta to six Polish airports. This growing community has been nurtured through dedicated pastoral care which has now entered a new phase. Fr Marcin Kaznowski, current Superior of the Salesian Province of Krakow, recently accompanied Fr Adam Nyk, SDB, at the beginning of his ministry to the Polish community in Malta. This pastoral care, previously taken care of by a diocesan priest, now passes into the hands of Fr Adam, a Salesian. Under his guidance the ministry will merge the Salesian charism with the commitment to Polish traditions, promoting family-oriented accompaniment in the Maltese context. The formal handover took place on Sunday, 22 December 2024, during a concelebrated Mass in the church of Sarria in Floriana. This event, a significant milestone for the community, symbolises the continued collaboration between the Polish and Maltese Bishops' Conferences. Fr Adam's presence promises to bring new vitality to the pastoral mission, ensuring that the spiritual and cultural heritage of the Polish community thrives in Malta's unique environment.
