Malta – Young people spend a weekend of reflection, faith and fun at Savio College
Dingli, Malta – October 2024 – From 11 to 13 October, more than 40 young people gathered at Savio College in Dingli for an event organised by the Youth Ministry Office of the Mary Help of Christians Vice-Province of Malta (MLT), where they explored the theme of hope and reflected on the future of Maltese young people. The weekend offered a balanced mix of personal reflection, spiritual growth and leisure. The event began with activities aimed at promoting mutual knowledge of the participants from the works: Savio Salesian Youth, Salesjani Sliema, Salesjani Senglea and Oratorju Salesjani Dingli. The group workshops offered participants an in-depth platform to reflect on their personal stories, engaging in meaningful debates about the challenges young Maltese people could face by 2034. Each group explored these issues from the point of view of six key social entities: Church, Youth, Family, Government, Employers and NGOs, finally developing practical proposals on how these stakeholders could work for a more promising future. The programme also included recreational activities, such as volleyball, football and a cliff hike, offering participants a perfect way to relax and have fun. From a spiritual point of view, the participants gathered for morning and evening prayers, the Rosary, Mass and moments of Eucharistic Adoration, and were also invited to go to Confession. On Sunday morning, Fr Brendan Gatt shared a stimulating reflection on the Christian perspective of hope, highlighting the relationship between faith, trust and Christian hope, citing the Catechism of the Church and the "Spe Salvi" of Pope Benedict XVI.
