Democratic Republic of Congo – Opening of Congress of Past Pupils
Goma Democratic Republic of Congo – August 2024 – It was in an atmosphere of solemnity and spiritual fervour that the first Congress of Past Pupils of Don Bosco in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo opened on Thursday 22 August at the Kami Hôtel in Goma. The event began with a Mass of thanksgiving celebrated by Fr Gauthier Tshibangu, Provincial Delegate of the AFC-EST, and concelebrated by seven Salesian priests, including Fr André Kazembe, initiator of this Congress. The event, attended by Past Pupils from Goma and Beni, had as its theme: "Past pupils formed and committed to the good of the world; pupils formed for what future?". Those present were therefore urged to actively engage in the Salesian mission and to embody and promote the values of gratitude, communion, courage and generosity, values that are at the heart of the Salesian spirit. The congress, which will last until 25 August, stands as an important moment of reflection, sharing and commitment for all participants, with the hope of charting a clear path for the future of Past Pupils formed in the spirit of Don Bosco.
