India – The Don Bosco International School in Matunga hosts an illustrious student conference
Matunga, India – August 2024 – On 16 and 17 August, the Don Bosco International School in Matunga hosted the third student conference, held following the model of the United Nations conferences. It was a prestigious event, bringing together over 160 student delegates from 18 schools in Mumbai and other parts of India. The famous Indian freelance journalist Faye D'Souza, the keynote speaker, encouraged the participants to engage in the work in a spirit of openness, dialogue and empathy - key elements in promoting peace in the world. The conference offered student delegates a platform to develop critical and problem-solving skills, discussing issues affecting people from all nations. The discussions, which simulated procedures at the United Nations, addressed issues of global scope under the banner of six committees: the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UNW) for students from the sixth to the eighth year; the Committee on Disarmament and International Security, the Economic and Financial Committee (ECOFIN), the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) and the Joint Crisis Committee (JCC) for students from the ninth to the twelfth year. It was an engaging and transformative experience, aimed at making students responsible global citizens.
