Papua New Guinea – Spiritual retreat for parish priests and chaplains of the Archdiocese of Port Moresby: “Conversations in the Spirit”

15 July 2024

Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea – July 2024 – From 7 to 12 July in Sivaria Namona, Bomana, Cardinal John Ribat, MSC, together with the parish priests and chaplains of the Archdiocese of Port Moresby took part in the spiritual retreat led by Bishop Dariusz Kaluza MSF, Bishop of Bougainville, who focused on synodality in the parish community. Bishop Kaluza highlighted the encounter, listening, prayer and discernment where the Spirit leads. He encouraged everyone to see and recognise the Lord in ordinary events, in brother priests, and in the community. The mornings were spent in prayer, in the sessions and in the Eucharistic celebration. The second half of the day focused on “Conversations in the Spirit”, Adoration of the Most Holy Eucharist, personal rosary and reflection. “Conversations in the Spirit” is what was used at the Synod of Synods. It consists of listening, sharing, praying, and discerning what the Spirit invites you to do. It was a time when each participant was able to gain an understanding of the priesthood, a deeper understanding of the Church that calls us to face the challenges we face in our ministry and in life.
