Indonesia – Becoming good teachers by understanding the needs of students

30 April 2024

Sumba, Indonesia – April 2024 – Nowadays, it is not easy for a teacher to understand the character of students, in the area of education. This is because each student has a different character. For this reason, on 25 and 26 April, the Don Bosco high school in Sumba tried to respond to this challenge, understanding the personalities of the students through psychology. An event was organised in collaboration with the Tarumanegara University of Jakarta. The University's team of psychologists carried out a psychological test on each student, but also on parents and teachers, with the aim of providing personality assessments and measuring the interests and talents of students and teachers. The school also invited the Salesian Aspirants and Pre-Novices to participate in this activity. Over the two days, it was explained what is needed in the world of work, especially in teaching, and what must be done to understand the attitudes of each student. When a teacher is able to do all this students will appreciate them better. The goal of all this is to be a wise teacher, able to understand and support their students, until they feel truly loved.
