Cameroon – "Enthusiastic about Jesus Christ": the ninth Provincial Chapter of the Vice-Province of Equatorial Tropical Africa
Yaoundé, Cameroon – April 2024 – The Salesians of the Vice-Province of Equatorial Tropical Africa (ATE) gathered in fraternal communion around the Superior of the Visitation, Fr Roland Mintsa, on the occasion of the ninth Provincial Chapter held from 2 to 8 April, at the headquarters of the Saint Augustine community of Nkol 'afeme, Yaoundé. The theme of the Provincial Chapter, inspired by the 29th General Chapter, was: "Enthusiastic about Jesus Christ, dedicated to young people". As in all the Provinces that are currently holding their own Provincial Chapters, this theme has given rise to the preparations for GC29. In this respect Fr André Young Ela, Chapter Moderator, involved those present in a retreat to deepen their appreciation of the theme of GC29. After a moment of recollection and prayer, Fr André Young Ela presented the regulations of the Provincial Chapter. Fr Mintsa then presented the current situation of the Vice-Province, inviting "a profound renewal of our charismatic identity as Salesians of Don Bosco, for a coherent and credible witness". The following days were marked by reflections on different themes and, in addition, Chapter members had the opportunity, in these days, to discuss with Archbishop José Avelino Bettencourt, Apostolic Nuncio in Cameroon. Before the closing, the Delegates who will take part in the GC29 were voted on: Fr Evita Role Eleuterio and his substitute Fr Rigobert Fumtchum.
