Thailand – Day of Reflection for Burmese Migrant Workers
Hat Yai, Thailand – March 2024 - Thanks to the Superior of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians (FMA) community running the Thidanukhro girls' school in Hat Yai in southern Thailand, a special day of reflection for Burmese immigrant workers in the country was held on Saturday, 23 March. The Principal of the Salesian boys' school in Saeng Thong, Bro Thanad Anan, offered the school chapel as a meeting point. Fr Will Matthews, former Superior of the Australia-Pacific Province (AUL), who grew up in Burma, led the day of reflection with catechism, moments of exchange reconciliation and the Eucharist. It was a pleasant day for all the participants, thanks also to the spiritual support of the sisters and their genuine maternal care. The event was the result of the joint effort of the FMA and the Salesians of Don Bosco in Thailand in support of Burmese migrant workers entrusted to their care. There are many young Burmese workers in Thailand who do their best to achieve a better life and to support their families at home; and those who work with young Burmese migrants can only continue to ask for prayers and support for peace and democracy in their homeland.
