United States – Young people from the Salesian Missionary Volunteer Service distribute meals to the homeless
Los Angeles, United States – March 2024 – Young people belonging to the Salesian Missionary Volunteer Service, in collaboration with several other Salesian works, organised an initiative for the homeless in the "Skid Row" community on 17 March, providing meals to over 500 people living on the street. The initiative was joined by the St Mary and St Isabel parishes, the Bishop Mora High School and the members of the Salesian Family Youth Centre's "SHOUT" program. In addition, the St Dominic Savio parish sent five participants led by Juan Carlos Montenegro, Salesian Family lay person and member of the Salesian Missionary Volunteer Service Advisory Committee. The young people worked together, preparing sandwiches and kits containing food and water to be distributed to the homeless. In their reflections, the young people explained how this experience was meaningful for them and how it spurred them to work hard at school and put themselves at the service of others.
