Africa - Madagascar - Meeting of Social Communication Delegates, Africa - Madagascar Region
Africa - Madagascar - December 2023 - On 7 December, the Delegates for Social Communication of the Africa - Madagascar Region met digitally. Fr Gildasio Mendes, General Councillor for Social Communication, led the meeting during which he discussed the physical and psychological effects of the rapid digitalisation of society. He told the Delegates that they must provide answers to the questions that are being raised in the field of digital media within the Church and the Congregation. He insisted on a deeper understanding of and response to the problems associated with the new media. Then the General Councillor invited all Delegates to attend the Conference on Communication to be held in Rome next year, saying that this conference would be a testimony to the fact that Salesians take communication seriously. Fr Maciej Makula, from the Social Communication Sector at Headquarters, then spoke, highlighting the Sector's upcoming events and giving further details about next year's conference. Finally, Fr Makula also spoke of his visit to Nairobi, Kenya, to assess the possibility of setting up a communication coordination centre and the mobile journalism project.
