Valencia, Spain - October 2023 - The meeting of the Provincial Delegates for Missionary Animation (DIAM) of the Mediterranean Region was held in Valencia, Spain, from 16 to 19 October. The central theme of the meet: "Certainty in a time of uncertainties" was touched on by Fr Edwar Gobran, DIAM of the Salesian Province of the Middle East (MOR). Hailing from Egypt, he kicked off the meeting by sharing, on the one hand, the fatigue that the Middle East and the Province is experiencing at the moment, and on the other, the certainty of the presence of so many people who support them especially with prayer. Other themes addressed were: Missionary Animation as a renewal drive for pastoral work; Reflection on the missionary vocation; preparation for the 150th Anniversary of the First Missionary Expedition (in 2025); WYD Lisbon 2023; and Missionary Animation. All the topics were contextualised by the participants through the sharing that took place after presentation. The presence of Fr Alfred Maravilla, General Councillor for the Missions, helped to address some of the challenges of missionary animation in the various Provinces. The importance of remembering, first of all, the missionary animation in the Salesian communities was underlined. The moments of prayer and fraternity were much appreciated and characterised the family spirit lived together with the Salesian Community of Valencia. The participants felt at home thanks to the generous hospitality of the SMM Province and thanks to the organisation and care of the SMX Vice Provincial, Fr José Luis Navarro, and the Regional Coordinator for Missionary Animation (CORAM) Fr Sílvio Faria, of the Province of Portugal (POR).
