Australia – The Centenary Retreat for Salesians in Australia and the Pacific
Sydney, Australia – October 2023 – As part of the celebrations for the 100th anniversary of the Salesian presence in Australia and the Pacific, a retreat was organised which brought together Salesians, FMA, lay people and Salesian Brothers from Australia, New Zealand, Samoa and the Fiji Islands. It was an opportunity to reflect on the incredible work the Salesian mission has accomplished in Australia over the past 100 years and to thank God for the gift of the courageous Salesians who brought the mission to Australia in 1923. Fr Chris Ford was the main preacher of the retreat and presented a variety of themes related to the Charism of Don Bosco on which to reflect. Sister Edna Mary MacDonald, FMA, retraced the story of Saint Mary Domenica Mazzarello and the mission of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians in Australia. The retreat ended with the Eucharistic Celebration at the parish of Saint Margaret Mary in Brunswick, celebrated by the Archbishop of Melbourne, Peter Andrew Comensoli, and concelebrated by several Salesian priests.
