India - Green Power – Grow Bosco

The students of Don Bosco school, Mariapuram, Warangal launched a tree plantation campaign with a Bugle call. The children standing alongside the paths to the fields of rural Warangal district with fruit bearing saplings, a dedicated musical band made a march-past heralding a plantation drive.

Fr K. Melchior Raju, the Administrator, passionately prepared 5 acres of land for tree plantation for hundreds of saplings for tree plantation. The Principal of the Don Bosco School, Fr. M. Vijaya Prakash ensured that the children led the tree plantation and spoke well on the good efforts on part of the Missions Procurator to involve the future citizens in this noble cause. Slogans of “Grow/Bosco” chanted by the children brought an air of excitement. All along the half a kilometre stretch and in the fields, the children held to the saplings and at the count of three, they planted the saplings in one go! Addressing students of Don Bosco School, Mariapuram, Fr. Noel Maddhichetty, Director, Don Bosco LiFE, Missions Procurator of the Salesian Province of St. Joseph, Hyderabad sounded the bugle call for a Grow Bosco emphasizing the need for climate resilience through tree plantation in order to overcome global warming. The province of Hyderabad envisages the plant 100,000 trees in the years ahead to reduce the carbon foot print ensure a sustainable planet Earth.
