Jarabacoa, Dominican Republic - May 2023 - "Salesian Cooperators in formation to be a ferment in our vocation," with this motto the local councilors of the Salesian Cooperators (SSCC) of the Dominican Republic held their 2023 Congress at the Salesian Promotion and Formation Center in Pinar Quemado, Jarabacoa. Held May 12-14, the event was attended by over 56 SSCC members representing the 13 local centers in the Dominican Republic. The Congress featured a family setting with the accompaniment of the Salesians, the visit and greeting of Fr. Hugo Orozco, SDB, Councilor for the Interamerica Region, on an Extraordinary Visit to the Salesian Province of the Antilles, and the feast of St. Maria Domenica Mazzarello. During the work, the following were presented: the reports of the local works for the year 2022, highlighting the experience of vocation and the sense of belonging to the association in Salesian houses and their recipients; the identity manual and the guide to the minutes for the secretariat area; and the lines of action for the next triennium by the councilors of the national and provincial formation areas. The Youth and Family Ministry area presented the lines of action for the local centers, and the board member presented a brief summary on Economic Solidarity, the axis of the Association's economic support worldwide. Also, the 147th anniversary of the founding of SSCC was celebrated in preparation for the 150th. At the end of the congress, the mission field project, as a common apostolate of cooperating Salesian brothers called to be outgoing Christians meeting with recipients in vulnerable conditions, was presented as a call to carry the message of Jesus beyond Salesian homes.
