Fiji - First stone of first Salesian parish church "St. John Bosco" blessed
Suva, Fiji - May 2023 - The foundation stone of the first Salesian parish in the Fiji Islands, the "St. John Bosco" church, was blessed on May 12. The Archbishop of Suva, Msgr. Peter Loy Chong, presided over the ceremony, which was attended by many faithful. After the Archbishop blessed the foundation stone, Fr. James Kyaw Hoe, Director, laid the first profession medal of the late Fr. Mikaele Leilua, the first pastor, who died in 2021. Then the Mary Help of Christians medals were laid down because, as Don Bosco said, every Salesian work is "Our Lady's work...begun with the Hail Mary." Then parish priest Fr. Taisali Leuluai, and Mr. Patrick Veu, Project Manager, were thanked for enabling the church construction work to reach this important stage. This was a historic event for the Salesian presence in Fiji.
