Japan - Salesian Spirituality Seminar on Rector Major's Strenna 2023
Chofu, Japan - February 2023 - The Salesian Province of Japan (GIA) organized an online Salesian Spirituality Seminar for all members of the Salesian Family on February 11. The program, centered on the Rector Major's Strenna 2023, "As the Yeast in Today’s Human Family. The Lay Dimension of the Family of Don Bosco," began with a prayer for the Salesian Family led by Fr. Nobuyuki Tamura, SDB which was followed by a talk by Fr. Joseph Phuoc, Councilor for the East Asia-Oceania Region, on an Extraordinary Visit to the Province of Japan (GIA). In his message, Fr. Phuoc urged the participants to embrace the Rector Major's Strenna 2023 as a personal goal to be achieved as a whole community, discerning ways to live it to the fullest for the benefit of the youth of Japanese society. The councilor also explained that everyone is invited to be yeast in the dough that becomes bread for life, as Jesus called to participate in the Kingdom of God. The main session of this seminar was led by Fr. Nakamaro Abe, SDB, professor of theology, who helped participants explore and discuss the message of the Strenna. Fr. Hideaki Hamaguchi, SDB, GIA Provincial, delivered the concluding address, in which he emphasized that in order to become leaven in today's society, one must be aware of and address problems and realities both locally and globally.
