Medellín, Colombia - April 2022 - April 11 was a historic day for the Salesian presence in Medellín, which celebrated 100 years since their arrival in the city. The Salesians, who came to accompany and form young people, settled in the center of a neighborhood eager to encounter Jesus through the sacraments and community life, and were responsible for animating its spiritual and community life with the parish "Our Lady of Suffrage." The centennial celebration was presided over by Msgr. Ricardo Tobón Restrepo, Archbishop of Medellín, and concelebrated by Fr. Luis Fernando Valencia, Provincial of the Salesian Province of Medellín (COM), in the presence of Salesians and faithful. As the Archbishop noted, the centennial is the feast day not only of the temple but of the communities, apostolic groups, and the assembly that gather around its altar: a feast that recalls the faithfulness to the Lord and the perseverance of the families that continue to build the local church.
