Papua New Guinea - PGS Provincial Chapter: "Which Salesians for today’s youth?"
Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea - April 2022 - The 2nd Provincial Chapter of the Salesian Vice-Province of Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands (PGS) is taking place from April 10 to 13; its theme: "Which Salesians for the youth of today?". The Chapter’s participants include 16 Salesians, while three others participated via the Zoom platform: two from the Solomon Islands and one from India. In his opening address, which was followed by the "Lectio Divina", Fr Gregorio Bicomong, Superior of the PGS Vice-Province, welcomed Fr Joseph Phuoc, Councilor for the Asia East-Oceania Region, who concluded his Extraordinary Visitation to the PGS Vice-Province. In harmony with GC 28 and continuing its journey, the Provincial Chapter strives to seek ways to implement GC 28 and give continuity to the work of reflection. The Provincial Chapter will look at the eight programmatic proposals of the Rector Major and adopt the corresponding lines of action, and in particular will focus on the evangelization of the young, the preferential option for the poor, and the formation of the laity. The Chapter will also deepen the reflections of Fr Pascual Chávez on the theme of the centrality of the mission, lived in community and in collaboration with laity and, especially, with lay collaborators in the Salesian mission.
