Dungalapitya, Sri Lanka - March 2022 - The "Don Bosco Youth Association" of the Salesian work "Don Bosco Dungalapitya", in the Salesian Vice-Province of Sri Lanka (LKC), organized a program of environmental cleaning of the beaches on Sunday, March 20. The young people, who for a long time had not been able to gather at the Youth Center, due to the restrictions caused by the pandemic, at the first available opportunity decided to carry out an activity in favor of the environment, cleaning a stretch of beach of 1.5 km. A total of 100 plastic bags and 125 bags of miscellaneous waste were collected. The police also supported the initiative of the young people, accompanying it with instructions and warnings to enforce the rules in favor of the environment. The plastic collected by the young people was finally donated to an orphanage that will sell it to a recycling company, earning a profit for its livelihood. The Salesian community at Provincial house accompanied them throughout the programme.
