Papua New Guinea - Ash Wednesday with over a thousand students
Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea - March 2022 – On 2 March, over a thousand students, alongside educators and staff, of "Don Bosco Technical School" in Gabutu participated in the celebration of Ash Wednesday which marks the beginning of the season of Lent. The three elements, Prayer, Fasting, and Almsgiving, for the time of Lent were displayed on a backdrop along with an illuminated cross. Fr Ambrose Pereira, spiritual moderator, and Fr Pedro Sachitula, Rector of the work, presided over the celebration. Fr Pereira centered the reflection on three points: the cross, symbol of God's infinite love; Christ invites everyone to change; Conversion is interior work, and concluded by leaving the participants with the question: what is your response to Christ's call? After the homily, everyone received ashes, and prayers were said to invoke an end to the pandemic and the war in Ukraine.
